Daniel Robert
Daniel Robert Sent back to Triple-A
Wed, May 14, 2025, 10:11 PM
The Phillies returned Robert to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Wednesday's doubleheader against St. Louis.
Analysis: The 30-year-old righty pitched just one-third of an inning during the second game of Wednesday's twin bill, striking out Nolan Arenado in five pitches. Robert will now go back to serving as organizational depth in Triple-A, where he owns a 1.54 ERA through 11.2 frames.
Alec Bohm
Alec Bohm Lifts second homer
Wed, May 14, 2025, 9:16 PM
Bohm went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in a 14-7 loss to the Cardinals in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Analysis: Bohm brought the Phillies back within two runs in the fourth inning, but that was as close as they'd get before the Cardinals rallied late. Power has been a problem for Bohm this season -- he doubled his total of extra-base hits in May with a homer and a double in this contest. However, he's been more consistent at the plate lately, going 15-for-42 (.357) over 12 contests this month. Overall, he's batting .258 with a .650 OPS, two homers, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored, six doubles, one triple and a stolen base over 40 games.
J.T. Realmuto
J.T. Realmuto Goes deep in nightcap
Wed, May 14, 2025, 9:09 PM
Realmuto went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 14-7 loss to the Cardinals in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Analysis: Realmuto rested for the early game and made an early impact in the nightcap. His homer capped a five-run first inning for the Phillies, though the Cardinals' offense responded in a bigger way over the rest of the contest. Realmuto is playing well in May, going 10-for-35 (.286) with five extra-base hits and seven RBI over 10 games this month. Overall, the catcher is at a .250/.327/.409 slash line with four homers, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored and four stolen bases over 36 contests this season.
Aaron Nola
Aaron Nola Lit up again Wednesday
Wed, May 14, 2025, 9:05 PM
Nola (1-7) allowed nine runs on 12 hits and a walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings to take the loss in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Nola's performance has taken a drastic turn for the worse lately, as he's allowed 13 runs, including five home runs, over his last 8.2 innings. He looked to be turning a corner in late April and early May, but that progress has been wiped out, with Wednesday's outing standing as his worst of the campaign so far. He's now at a 6.16 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB over 49.2 innings over nine starts. Nola is tentatively projected to make his next start at Colorado.
Nick Castellanos
Nick Castellanos Productive in doubleheader
Wed, May 14, 2025, 8:53 PM
Castellanos went 3-for-8 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored as the Phillies split their doubleheader versus the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Analysis: Castellanos picked up a steal on his first attempt of the season in the day game, then added a two-run double as part of a scoring explosion in a 14-7 loss in the nightcap. The 33-year-old outfielder has hit fairly well this season, batting .285 with a .752 OPS, four home runs, 23 RBI, 18 runs scored and 11 doubles across 43 contests. It's his highest batting average in four years, but Castellanos' power has taken a dip -- he's currently on pace to miss the 20-homer mark after reaching it in six of the last seven full-length campaigns.
Jordan Romano
Jordan Romano Clean inning for save
Wed, May 14, 2025, 4:53 PM
Romano struck out three in a perfect inning to earn the save in a 2-1 win over the Cardinals in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Analysis: Romano struck out the side on 13 pitches (10 strikes) to earn his second save in a row. He's on a six-inning scoreless streak, allowing just three hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in that span. Romano has earned four saves in six chances this season and has added four holds. He's at an 8.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB, but he appears to have things under control after his early struggles. Romano's recent success has put him back in the mix for saves, though he could still share closing duties with Jose Alvarado, who allowed a hit and a walk over one-third of an inning while pitching in the eighth in this game.
Jesus Luzardo
Jesus Luzardo Strong showing in win
Wed, May 14, 2025, 4:49 PM
Luzardo (4-0) allowed a run on five hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Luzardo gave up the opening run of the game, a Jordan Walker RBI single, in the seventh inning, but the Phillies answered with two runs of their own a half-inning later. This was Luzardo's third time completing seven innings this season, and he's yet to pitch less than five frames. He's also given up no more than three runs in all nine of his starts this year, which puts him at a 2.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB across 54 innings. Luzardo's next start is projected to be at Colorado.
Mick Abel
Mick Abel Figuring out Triple-A
Wed, May 14, 2025, 10:16 AM
Abel has a 1.96 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB in 41.1 innings over his last seven starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Analysis: Abel's first start of the year was in line with his work at Triple-A in the past -- he gave up four runs on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings March 30 -- but he has been dialed in since. The Phillies have a healthy and productive big-league rotation, but Abel looks like a post-hype option if they have need of a spot starter or injury fill-in before Andrew Painter is ready.
J.T. Realmuto
J.T. Realmuto Resting for early game
Wed, May 14, 2025, 9:23 AM
Realmuto is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.
Analysis: Rafael Marchan will start behind the plate in Game 1, but expect Realmuto to handle the catching duties in the second contest of the day. Through his first nine games of May, Realmuto is slashing .290/.389/.484 with one home run, five runs, five RBI and a 5:5 BB:K.
Daniel Robert
Daniel Robert Coming up as 27th man
Wed, May 14, 2025, 9:17 AM
The Phillies recalled Robert from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Robert will be the Phillies' 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. The right-handed reliever was acquired via trade from the Rangers earlier this month and will be making his Phillies debut when/if he gets into a game.
Jesus Luzardo
Jesus Luzardo Cardinals-Phillies game postponed
Tue, May 13, 2025, 2:08 PM
Luzardo's next outing will be pushed back after Tuesday's game against the Cardinals was postponed due to inclement weather, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Luzardo will take the ball in the first of those tilts, with Aaron Nola getting the start in the nightcap.
Cristopher Sanchez
Cristopher Sanchez Fans eight in quality start
Mon, May 12, 2025, 10:29 PM
Sanchez did not factor in the decision during Monday's loss to St. Louis. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out eight over six innings.
Analysis: Sanchez tossed three scoreless frames before Pedro Pages brought home a run with a fielder's choice in the fourth inning. Ivan Herrera later drilled a solo homer in the sixth. Sanchez has allowed two or fewer earned runs in seven of his eight outings this season, including an active six-start streak. He produced 13 whiffs Monday, including eight with his changeup. Sanchez is sporting an impressive 2.91 ERA with a 52:17 K:BB across 43.1 innings. He's in line for a home matchup against the Pirates this weekend.
Jordan Romano
Jordan Romano Grabs third save
Sun, May 11, 2025, 11:23 PM
Romano struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: Romano has pitched five consecutive scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking none in that span. He's picked up two saves and a hold during that stretch. Amid a rough start to the season, Romano was demoted to a low-leverage role, and a six-run blowup against the Marlins on April 19 didn't help him regain trust quickly. He's found a little bit of stability now, and it could be telling that Romano got the ninth inning against the heart of Cleveland's order while Jose Alvarado handled the eighth inning in Sunday's contest. However, barring an announcement from manager Rob Thomson, it's best to view the Phillies' bullpen as an emerging closer committee for now.
Zack Wheeler
Zack Wheeler Seven shutout innings in win
Sun, May 11, 2025, 11:16 PM
Wheeler (4-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven shutout innings to earn the win over the Guardians on Sunday.
Analysis: Wheeler kept runs off the board for the first time in nine starts this season. It's also the fifth time he's allowed five or fewer baserunners, and he earned his seventh quality start. Wheeler has been in nearly peak form with a 2.95 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 74:11 K:BB across 58 innings this season. He's got a favorable matchup ahead, as he's projected to start at home versus the Pirates in his next outing.
Johan Rojas
Johan Rojas Part of timeshare in CF
Sun, May 11, 2025, 4:25 PM
Rojas will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Rojas began the season in the short side of a platoon in center field with the left-handed-hitting Brandon Marsh but has now seemingly earned his way into a timeshare at the position. The Phillies are facing a right-handed pitcher (Luis L. Ortiz) for the sixth game in a row Sunday, and Rojas and Marsh have now made three starts apiece during that span.
Brandon Marsh
Brandon Marsh Idle against righty
Sun, May 11, 2025, 4:22 PM
Marsh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Though the Phillies are facing a sixth consecutive right-handed starter (Luis L. Ortiz) on Sunday, the left-handed-hitting Marsh has now found himself out of the lineup on three occasions during that stretch. After previously occupying the strong side of a platoon in center field, Marsh looks to have fallen into a true timeshare at the position with Johan Rojas, who gets the nod Sunday.
Bryce Harper
Bryce Harper Homer, three hits in win
Sat, May 10, 2025, 10:33 PM
Harper went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Guardians.
Analysis: Harper broke things open with a 421-foot home run that ignited a six-run eighth inning for the Phillies. Over his past 10 games, the first baseman has tallied three multi-hit efforts with five extra-base hits, six RBI and six runs scored. While he's batting a modest .242 on the season, the 32-year-old has provided steady production with seven homers, 22 RBI, 23 runs scored and six steals across 177 plate appearances.
Ranger Suarez
Ranger Suarez Goes seven scoreless in win
Sat, May 10, 2025, 10:21 PM
Suarez (1-0) earned the win against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five over seven scoreless innings.
Analysis: Suarez was incredibly efficient, needing just 82 pitches to complete seven innings while generating 11 swinging strikes. It was an encouraging rebound after the southpaw yielded seven runs in his return from the injured list Sunday. He'll carry a 5.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB across 10.2 innings into a home matchup with the Pirates next weekend.
Edmundo Sosa
Edmundo Sosa Tallies RBI in spot start
Sat, May 10, 2025, 10:20 PM
Sosa went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 7-1 win over Cleveland.
Analysis: Sosa filled in at third base for the resting Alec Bohm, making his first start since last Sunday's loss to Arizona. While Sosa is slashing a strong .333/.380/.422 with four doubles, nine RBI and eight runs scored over 50 plate appearances, he'll likely remain restricted to a bench role primarily a pinch runner while Philadelphia's infield is fully healthy.
Alec Bohm
Alec Bohm Getting rest Saturday
Sat, May 10, 2025, 2:11 PM
Bohm isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus Cleveland.
Analysis: Bohm will get a breather Saturday after recording hits in each of his last six games, going 8-for-22 with three RBI and four runs scored in the process. Edmundo Sosa will fill in at the hot corner and bat ninth.
